Aaaahh - the joy of reading!!!!

Man, I love to read. Love, love, love it. But these days, I try not to. I lose myself in a book. Totally immersed in the glorious action, or the sad desperate love of someone who isn't loved in return, or the small tips for raising happy children (ha ha - there are no SMALL tips), or what makes your roses grow better buds, or how to be trim AND terrifiic before 40, how to be a better communicator, or ....anything really. But the more I lose myself in a book, the more everything around me goes to pot, and sometimes the more I dislike the reality of my life. (There's a difference between fantasy and reality isn't there!!!)
I have always read to Ellie and Harri. I can remember reading Possum Magic to Ellie when she was only about 6mths old. She loved to "help" me turn the pages and made all sorts of appropriate "ooh" and "aaah" sounds.
It has become an absolute joy to me to watch my girl begin her reading experiences by herself over the last few weeks. Ellie gets a reader each day from school and after tea we all snuggle on the couch and she reads to us. (This is quickly becoming my favourite part of the day). When she first started, she needed quite a bit of help, but these days she is just whizzing through the books. Last night as she read to us, she paused for quite some time. As I had Harri on my lap, I couldn't actually see the book and so I said "what's up Ellie?" and she said "Mummy, why are all these words in a rush?" (what the....I thought). When I did get to see the page, she was pointing to a section that was written in Italics!!
At first, I didn't get it, but if you look at them, they are kind of bending over as if they are moving. I think if you stop and look at things through the eyes of a child.........it's all pretty wonderful isn't it! No wonder Jesus chose to hang out with them!
