Just another dodgy day....

Today, has not even really started - I know it's 1.30pm - but all the same.... (All you have to do is take a look at Harri -  he is still in his PJ's.) See what I mean. I can't even be bothered getting him changed -  I'm too busy being jealous - jealous that he is in his PJ's and I'm not! Jealous, restless, tired and slightly bored - yep, that's me. Me in a nutshell.

Ellie woke up feeling a little bit  - something - and so good mother that I am, I decided to give her a day off home school. (What with a holiday last week, she'll be backwards in no time at all!!!)

Giving her a day off, meant giving me the day off, and that just left me at a bit of a loose end.

I know there are probably hundreds of useful things I could be doing, but I can't seem to settle down to anything useful.

Actually that's not entirely true. I mean, I have already done some things, and I'm sure I will do something else later today - I'm just not actually sure what those things were/will be.

I did take the dog walking this morning. He's doing really well - only jumped up on three unsuspecting victims out on their morning jog (serves them right really, out there being all athletic and fit and showing me up for the droopy, glazed over, harried looking mess that I am!) and only one of them, lost their stride and got slightly tangled up in his lead. Good thing we're both so cute.

Came home, made cups of tea and breakfast. Sent Nev off to work. Tidied up. Read to the kids. Wormed the dog. Rang my sister and had a "I'm bored, what are you doing" conversation. Rang the mechanic. Rang Nev at work to see what he was doing - "you're bored, go find something useful to do" (pshaw right Nev!!).

Anyway, you get the general idea. At one point Harri said to me, "what are we doing today Mumsie" (excited, expectant look on his face). I hedged, I hawed, I generally put off answering him (because quite frankly, I had no idea!!).

Nothing gets past Harri. "Oh, it's going to be one of those dodgy days isn't it", he said. "Well, I'll get the lego out and you make yourself a cuppa, and we'll come up with something".

Sigh. If only he'd be the adult a little more often.

Such is the life of a busy mother that even after a day filled with doing things like others, you look around and wonder what you have accomplished.

If you ever have another day like that, one thing I used to do (when I could be bothered) was hold a home talent show. The kids would hone some dance routine, a memorized poem, song, whatever -- and entertain us with it at the end of the day. You can't always get them to buy it, but sometimes it works great!

Oh Mary, sounds lovely! I just wish someone else would come and organise it! Any chance you're not too busy?......

Don't be hard on yourself Helen. Even teachers at school "wing it" sometimes.....
You just have "holidayitis". You'll be well soon, and back into the swing of things. :-)

Nice idea Aunty Glenda - I know our little shopaholic Ellie would love that!! She still talks about you (in that kind of dreamy voice..."remember when Aunty Glenda took me shopping. Sigh") You'd have to have the dog as well - they come as a package deal...heh heh heh!!
