Nev's Big Day Out........

Back when Nev and I were "going out" (or whatever it was that we were doing before we got married), we used to spend a lot of time in his 4WD going bush. We took that car to some pretty amazing places. We got muddy, we got stuck, we nearly crashed into trees,we broke down occasionally, we even had to get rescued every now and again by other 4WD's. We were reckless and carefree. We were young and wild and we were having the times of our lives.
When I think back to those times, I can think of one thing we never did. We never worried about the future. We were together, we were madly in love, we were in the great outdoors, we were confident in who we were and what we were doing - we were unbreakable!
These days we are still together, still madly in love, but feeling ever so breakable and not very young. Gone seem to be the reckless, carefree days of our youth, taken over with days of doing the responsible, adult thing and worrying over the future of our children. Sigh! We have both been feeling a little bit like this recently, and have been wondering how to recapture our wild inner selves - or something slightly less sedate than our typical "nearly 40" attitudes. On Saturday, Nev came up with a plan.
"Helen, pack us some lunch, and probably some dinner, grab some water bottles, your hat and a good book. We're out of here," he proclaimed almost the minute he woke up. Startled, but kind of turned on by his commanding prescence, I did what I was told. An hour later, I had sandwiches and a BBQ tea organised, we were all sunscreened up and ready for whatever he had in store for us.
Taking a leisurely drive down lovely back roads, passing two herds of beautiful wild horses (could they be a sign??? Was this the day we would run wild through the forests of life?!) an hour and a half later, we found ourselves driving down Rainbow Beach. The windows were down, Queen was playing rather loud (this particular CD was pretty synonomous with the days when Nev and I would go skiing - driving up the scarey, frozen roads and sleeping in the back of the 4WD), the waves were crashing noisily onto the shore, and Nev had a reckless, carefree glint in his eye and a fairly wicked grin on his face. Woohoo!!!!!
We found a beautifully secluded little area(until two weddings pulled in on either side) and spent the day mucking around together. Ellie and Harri had an absolute ball......making a huge puddle to lie around in, some sand dribble castles, and jumping in the waves. The looks on their faces said it all, "we are having the time of our lives!!" Nev seemed to permanantly have his camera attached to his face - which I love to see as taking photos brings him great happiness! I couldn't have been happier - we were all together, we were all madly in love, we were in the great outdoors and we were confident in who we were and what we were doing. We were almost, just for a tiny little bit, slightly - unbreakable!!

Sounds like a great day - a bit worried about the 'Queen' however...

*Meionder - to wonder about one's past life, to reflect on former glories and then (perhaps) to act out a little bit.

Helen, I would to come and stay with you but we have so much on that it just seems impossible (at least financially).
The young adults of the church have book a week long adventure in Middleton in a holiday house in November and in January we are leaving the kids behind and going to Sydney for District Assembly. Finding some cheap flights will certainly help and I have a file on my computer called "Qld Holiday" one day soon :)
Might need to go back to work to earn a little extra :(
